Welcome to Misako Ballet Studio!
Policies and Procedures
We are very appreciative that you chose our dance studio and hope that you have a good experience with us. Below are our policies and procedures. We offer these so there is clarity about financial matters and our expectations about participation in classes and performances. Hopefully, this will help make for a fulfilling year of classes. Please read these policies carefully, and understand that it is subject to change at any time at the discretion of Ms. Misako.
Communication with the School Director: Ms. Misako is available to talk with you about any concerns you may have. Please schedule time with the front desk receptionist to talk. If you have concerns with your child’s class or teacher, we encourage you to talk with the teacher first. If your child is unhappy, we also encourage you to let us know. We want our students to enjoy dancing at our studio.
Parent’s Responsibility to be Aware of Dates and Events: It is the responsibility of the parent to be aware of all school activities such as viewing days, recitals, extra classes, and dates the school is open or closed. The school will post notices on the school bulletin board and send emails. Parents are responsible for checking their email regularly, and it is the parent’s responsibility to inform the school of any change to their contact information. We provide all of this information in several different places, such as this POLICY AND PROCEDURES packet. The class schedule for the current year has a FULL schedule from September- June, so upon enrollment, you have all MANDATORY DATES that need to be set aside for your child to participate. We understand that planning all the way into June is very far in advance, so if issues arise please tell us BEFORE the payment deadline. Without this notice, we will assume your child will be participating in all events as scheduled.
Care of Students: The school is not responsible for providing before or after-class care for students. Students are not to be left at the school for excessive amounts of time before or after class. You may drop your child off as early as 15 MINUTES BEFORE class time and pick them up NO LATER than 15 MINUTES AFTER class has ended.
Behavior: A student will have their lessons terminated without refund for unruly, distracting, or inappropriate behavior during class at the sole discretion of Ms. Misako.
Health and Safety: Out of an abundance of caution, no eating will be allowed in any area of the studio. Parents /Guardians shall accompany their children under 12 to/from the Studio reception area.
Injuries: Parents, legal guardians of minor students, and adult students waive the right to any legal action for any injury sustained on school property resulting from normal dance activity or any other activity conducted by students before, during, or after class time.
Dance Class Attendance and Lateness: Repeated lateness may result in termination of lessons WITH NO REFUND!. No refunds are given for missed lessons due to personal reasons. (Ie: School activities such as ski trips or programs, band trips, Spring Breaks that differ from our school’s Spring Break, sports games, etc. do not qualify for make-up lessons.) YOU WILL ONLY BE REFUNDED AND/OR GIVEN A MAKE-UP session if the STUDIO cancels class.
Missed classes and make-ups: If your child misses a class and wants to make it up, please talk with the teacher or receptionist. Learning dance is cumulative, and is built on what was learned before. Practice and repetition are essential for learning. Therefore, regular attendance is very important. If you know your child is sick please email us no later than 3:30 pm the day of their class. If you will be absent due to a planned event, if you give us enough notice, we can schedule a make-up session.
Substitute teachers: The school reserves the right to provide a substitute teacher if the regularly scheduled teacher is ill or otherwise unable to teach classes. If the school cannot arrange a substitute, any missed classes will be made up.
Extreme Weather or Unexpected Interruption of Classes: If the school must cancel classes due to extreme weather or events beyond our control, such as power outages, the missed lessons will be made up before the end of the teaching year. No refunds for lessons missed due to these reasons will be given. We schedule a make-up session for missed classes due to weather or other unexpected events. MBS will notify you of all closings via parent email and our website.
We will post a decision about closing the studio by 2:00pm. Families will be notified of all short notice cancellations by email, and/or website at www.misakodance.com. Please do not email, text, or call the studio or Ms. Misako because we cannot respond to everyone individually. ______________________________________________________________________________

Misako Dance Recitals
Dance is a performing art and so it is important for students to have experience participating in recitals.
All students, except those in the Creative Movement classes, will perform in recitals. This is a mandatory requirement. Any concerns regarding recital attendance needs to be expressed to the teacher by MARCH 1st, 2025.
Expectations regarding performances: WE GIVE ALL INFORMATION REGARDING RECITALS IN THIS PACKET, ONLINE, AND ON OUR YEARLY SCHEDULE PACKET!!!! In order to be fully prepared for performances, students should consistently attend each class. As a participant, you are expected to respect the time of teachers, and other students. Any additional time spent covering missed content can interrupt the choreography. The recital is meant to show your students growth and improvement throughout the year in a fun and creative way. If your child is attending class UNTIL JUNE of 2025, THEY ARE EXPECTED TO PERFORM.
Annual Recital: Misako Dance plans one mandatory recital annually. This recital will be held at the Jim Rouse Theatre on SATURDAY, June 7, 2025. There will be an approximate performance fee of $200- $300. (These details are subject to some changes based on student enrollment.) There will be an additional $25 costume rental fee charged per costume for students dancing in more than one piece. Student performance fees are due by April 6, 2025, and will pay for costume rental, theater rental, stage managers, lighting coordinators, and logistical requirements associated with these performances.
Holiday Concert: Misako Dance also holds mandatory holiday concerts at the studio time around the holiday season in December. This is a more informal performance that happens at MISAKO BALLET STUDIO. The dates for the Holiday Concert are DECEMBER 14th, 17th, & 20th, 2024(tentative) at Misako Ballet Studio. As with the annual recital, This is a MANDATORY REQUIREMENT. The Holiday Concert will also require parents to pay a small performance fee to cover the costs of costume rental. Performance fees are due by November 30, 2024. There will be an approximate performance fee of $40- $50. (This fee covers costumes and minor setup fees as we bring lighting equipment to the studio) There will be an additional $25 costume rental fee charged per costume for students dancing in more than one piece.
Dance attire: We carry uniforms at the studios. We realize there may be some difficulty in getting your uniform immediately, but barring extreme circumstances, we hope to have everyone in uniform. All ballet dancers should refrain from wearing jewelry and dangling earrings for safety reasons, and female ballet dancers (above 4 years old) should pull their hair into a bun with pins and net so that posture and alignment can be seen clearly. If you are unable to do your child’s hair we are happy to assist them. If you send your child with hair ties and bobby pins, we will use your supplies BUT if they do not come prepared, we will use our own supplies and charge $5 per bun EACH TIME. PLEASE come prepared or expect the $5 charge to your account. Attire for boys taking ballet is a white T-shirt (tucked in), black shorts or tights, and white socks. If you are unsure of specific dance attire, please ask the teacher.
